Celebrating Earth Day and Building Our Community!

Image
On Tuesday, we started the week by learning all the different ways we can represent the number 3. We used objects, drawings, and numbers to show our understanding. We also had our Earth Day assembly done by the grade 3s and 4s! The students were excited to learn about ways we can take care of our planet. On Wednesday, I was away, but the class had a wonderful day with a lovely substitute teacher, Ms. Sinclair. They learned how to write the letter Ww and practiced forming it correctly. Ms. Sinclair said they were a fantastic group and worked really hard! On Thursday, we talked about what a community is and what kinds of places and people we see in communities. We discussed how each of us is an important part of our own community. The students completed a fun worksheet all about themselves, highlighting their interests and what makes them special. Later, we had a thoughtful conversation about Earth Day and brainstormed ways we can protect our Earth — the students shared many fant...

Tally Marks, Feelings, and Flower Art!

Hello Families! Last week was full of learning, creativity, and fun! On Monday, we started our day with partner reading at the carpet. Then, we learned how to use tally marks! We practiced making tally marks on our whiteboards and collected data in the classroom. First, we tallied everyone's favourite colours, and then we did the same for favourite animals. After that, we took our clipboards and tally worksheets outside to sit in front of the school. We observed passing cars and tallied each one we saw. The kids had so much fun being little data collectors! We finished the afternoon with some extra playtime at the playground. Our Superstar helper on Monday was Huxley! Huxley brought in a stuffed cat that he calls cat! The kids asked him many questions such as, "How does it move?", "Where did the whiskers go?", "When do you play with it?", "What is your cats name?" and "What's around its neck? On Tuesday, we read the book...

This Week in Kindergarten!

Hello families! On Monday, we began our day with independent reading—some students chose to read quietly at their tables while others got cozy on the carpet. Afterward, we read the beautiful book Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring, which sparked a conversation about the signs of spring we’ve started to notice outside. On Tuesday, we jumped into the day with a math worksheet focused on counting and number recognition. Students practiced counting groups of objects and matching them to the correct numeral. Later, we wrapped up our hibernation book and enjoyed some creative play during centre time. On Wednesday, we practiced writing the letter Ll on whiteboards, focusing on proper letter formation and pencil grip. Then, we recorded the letter Ll in our visual journals and drew pictures of words that start with that sound. We took advantage of the sunshine by having snack at the top of the hill, followed by some energetic playtime outdoors and on the playground. On Thursday, we kicked ...

Spring is Here!

Hello Families! We had such a wonderful and engaging week in kindergarten! Here's a look at what we’ve been up to: On Monday, we began our day with some calm and focused independent reading. Students chose books to enjoy either at their tables or cozied up on the carpet. Afterward, we dove into learning about the letter Hh. We practiced identifying the uppercase and lowercase forms, listened for the /h/ sound in words, and brainstormed a list of H words—like hat, horse, and hamburger! We also practiced printing the letter Hh with proper formation. On Tuesday, our focus was on the number one. We explored the concept through hands-on activities like using counters, drawing, and even acting it out with our bodies. We talked about what “one” can look like in different ways—one dot on a die, one item in a set, or even one jump! Students practiced writing the numeral and identifying it in their surroundings. On Wednesday, we started our day with a fun letter hunt, searching the...
