Spring is Here!
Hello Families!
We had such a wonderful and engaging week in kindergarten! Here's a look at what we’ve been up to:
On Monday, we began our day with some calm and focused independent reading. Students chose books to enjoy either at their tables or cozied up on the carpet. Afterward, we dove into learning about the letter Hh. We practiced identifying the uppercase and lowercase forms, listened for the /h/ sound in words, and brainstormed a list of H words—like hat, horse, and hamburger! We also practiced printing the letter Hh with proper formation.
On Tuesday, our focus was on the number one. We explored the concept through hands-on activities like using counters, drawing, and even acting it out with our bodies. We talked about what “one” can look like in different ways—one dot on a die, one item in a set, or even one jump! Students practiced writing the numeral and identifying it in their surroundings.
On Wednesday, we started our day with a fun letter hunt, searching the classroom for hidden Kks! This playful activity helped reinforce letter recognition in an interactive way. Later, we began a new science topic on hibernation. We had a great discussion about what hibernation means and which animals hibernate. Then we read the book “Do Frogs Drink Hot Chocolate to Stay Warm?”, which sparked lots of curiosity and laughter. The children loved learning about the creative ways animals stay warm in winter.
On Thursday, we continued learning about hibernation. We talked about where animals go in the winter and what kinds of places they might find to stay warm. Students shared their own ideas and made connections to what they already know about animals and the changing seasons. We also started a hibernation booklet and drew pictures of animals that hibernate in the winter.
On Friday, we began with a colour-by-letter activity that helped reinforce letter recognition in a fun and relaxing way. Our focus letter of the day was Rr! We practiced printing both uppercase and lowercase Rr and came up with a list of words that start with that letter—such as rabbit, rainbow, and rocket. To wrap it all together, we did a guided drawing of a rabbit, following step-by-step instructions to create adorable bunny artwork. We also made time to enjoy the outdoors and had a blast during centre time, where students explored different play-based learning activities around the room.
Thank you for another amazing week!
Cheers,
Ms.Infante
