Tally Marks, Feelings, and Flower Art!

Hello Families! Last week was full of learning, creativity, and fun! On Monday, we started our day with partner reading at the carpet. Then, we learned how to use tally marks! We practiced making tally marks on our whiteboards and collected data in the classroom. First, we tallied everyone's favourite colours, and then we did the same for favourite animals. After that, we took our clipboards and tally worksheets outside to sit in front of the school. We observed passing cars and tallied each one we saw. The kids had so much fun being little data collectors! We finished the afternoon with some extra playtime at the playground.
Our Superstar helper on Monday was Huxley! Huxley brought in a stuffed cat that he calls cat! The kids asked him many questions such as, "How does it move?", "Where did the whiskers go?", "When do you play with it?", "What is your cats name?" and "What's around its neck?
On Tuesday, we read the book When I Am Feeling Jealous. At first, the class had a tough time thinking of a moment they felt jealous, but after discussing examples like someone else winning or having a new toy, they began to connect with the feeling and shared some thoughtful ideas. Our Superstar helper on Tuesday was Benjamin! Benjamin brought a stamp book that he uses to collect stamps with his grandpa. The kdis asked him "What is that piece of metal?", "Where do you get the stamps?", "What is the white paper between each page?", "Why do you have so many?", "I really like that its green!"
On Wednesday, we had our first Artist Residency session! The students started creating beautiful watercolour flowers. We spent time getting to know our visiting art teacher, Ms.Heather, and learned some painting techniques. A big thank you to Mr. Mark for coming in and helping us with our art!
On Thursday, we continued our Artist Residency with more painting fun! Thank you to Ms. Kayla and Ms. Anita for volunteering and supporting us as we finished our flowers. We also made Easter bunnies and decorated baskets—it was a creative and joy-filled day!
Cheers, Ms.Infante
