Snowy Week

Hello Families! This week started with a snowy bang! We introduced our letter of the week: I! For our alphabet soup, we included an iron, an insect, ice, an igloo, and an iguana. As a class, we brainstormed items in our classroom that start with the letter I. The kids enjoyed a guided drawing activity where they followed step-by-step instructions to draw an ice cream cone—perfectly ironic for the chilly weather! We also had a sharing circle where everyone shared their favorite ice cream flavors and colored their ice cream cones to match their chosen flavors.
Tuesday was all about our November self-portraits. Each month, students will draw a self-portrait and write their name to track how their skills improve over time. It’s always so wonderful to see their unique perspectives of themselves. Wednesday brought a thoughtful discussion about lockdown drills. We read a social story to help the children understand why lockdowns are important for keeping everyone safe. The students listened carefully, and during our practice, they were amazing! We also read the book "What Do You Do with an Idea?" and explored the things we wonder about the world.
As the cold weather settles in, we talked about winter clothing and how to dress for the season. We read "Froggy Gets Dressed" and followed up with an activity where the kids practiced sequencing their winter clothing. Thursday was the final day of our sorting unit. The kids worked on two sorting activities—one individually and one in groups. They did a fantastic job following instructions and sorting by different attributes. We also had our official lockdown drill. I am so proud of how the students handled it—they stayed quiet and calm for 10 minutes! Both the police officer and our principal were incredibly impressed.
Friday began with free play, where each table had various materials, and the students built whatever their imaginations desired. I’m always amazed at their creativity! Later, we practiced printing the letter I and drew pictures of items starting with I in our visual journals. Since it was our first club day, I gave the students a tour of the school and showed them which club they belong to. We wrapped up with a math activity on patterns. The students learned about AB and ABC patterns and created their own. It was a fantastic way to end the week! Reminders: Please don’t forget to sign up for parent-teacher interviews! Let me know if you need assistance with the process—I’d be happy to help. Important Dates: November 28: No kindergarten classes (Learning Conferences) November 29: No kindergarten classes (Learning Conferences) December 6: No kindergarten classes
