A Spooktacular Week in Kinder!

Hello families! We had such a fun week in class! We started by introducing the letter "T." Our "alphabet soup" for the week included tigers, turtles, and toes—but the kids agreed that this was one soup they didn’t want to eat! In our journals, we read Room on the Broom, a story about a witch who loses some things, and animals help her find them. In return, she lets them ride on her broom. This taught us about friendship, helping others, and teamwork. We also discussed our favorite activities and drew pictures of what we love to do most. Some kids shared that they enjoy camping, others said traveling to Malaysia, some mentioned spending time with family, and one said eating delicious food!
We also started learning the song Five Little Pumpkins. The kids loved singing it together with the actions! We drew the five little pumpkins on a gate, and each one had a different face—some scary, some happy, some sad, and others surprised. Then, we used watercolor to bring our pumpkins to life. On Thursday, we had a blast carving our classroom pumpkin! We voted on what kind of face to carve, and we talked about how voting works. The face with the most votes was the one we chose! During the carving, the kids sat so patiently. They got to smell and touch the pumpkin and its seeds, some found it fascinating, while others weren’t big fans of the smell or feel. We also had our parade that day! The kindergartens did so well leading the parade around the school. We got to lead and it and watch the other students as they walked by and showed us their costumes.
Today was pajama day! We started the day with silent reading on the carpet, with pillows and blankets. We read Pyjama Day by Robert Munsch, then designed our own pajamas on paper. We also spent some time outside, then returned to do some math. We made guesses about how many pumpkin seeds were in the pumpkin we carved. Guesses ranged from 8 to a million! I let them know that counting to a million would take a long time, but they were determined! We ended up counting just over 500 seeds—so many seeds in one pumpkin!
We wrapped up the day with centers and a story called The Monster Who Lost His M.
Thanks for a fantastic week! If you have any quesitons about anything, please reach out any time. I am currently trying to work out all of your children's emails for google classroom.
