Community and Celebration of Learning!

Hello families! This week was full of exciting learning and creativity in our classroom!
On Monday, we began the day by reading with a partner at the carpet. After that, we dove into learning all about the letter Yy! We practiced writing it on whiteboards, came up with words that start with Y, and even tried sounding out some simple Y words together.
On Tuesday, we continued our learning about communities. We had a great class discussion about what makes up a community and the kinds of places and people we can find in one. The students then drew pictures in their journals showing what they think a community is and included buildings, people, and other details they felt were important.
On Wednesday, we brought our ideas to life and built a community together! Each student created a building or part of a community using paper and crayons—some made schools, hospitals, houses, fire stations, and even libraries. Then, we added ourselves to the display because we are all part of the community, too! As a group, we added roads, cars, trees, clouds, and more to make it complete. It was such a fun and collaborative project.
On Thursday, we focused on the number 4 and learned about the many ways to represent it—tally marks, number words, dots, fingers, and more! We also took time to do our May self-portraits, and the kids were so proud of how much they’ve improved since the beginning of the year. We wrapped up by putting the final touches on our classroom community display. It’s been a creative and meaningful week of learning! Five senses in kindergarten

This Week in Kindergarten... On Monday, we started the week by introducing our letter of the week—U! We also had a lesson on our five senses, where the kids learned how important they are. We discovered that we use our senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste every day to explore the world around us. In math, we learned a new game called Tug of War, which was a huge hit! The kids had so much fun playing with a partner and are getting really good at recognizing numbers on a die quickly. In gym, we began our gymnastics unit, practicing different balances such as one-point balance, two- and three-point balance, V-sit balance, and bridge balance. Valentines week and assembly week!

Hello Families! Last week was such a blast! We had so many fun and meaningful activities that engaged our kinders in learning and creativity. We kicked off Monday with science, exploring the sense of touch. The kinders investigated balloons filled with different objects—some were soft, hard, bumpy, or smooth. They took turns feeling each one and making guesses about what was inside. The excitement was contagious when we finally opened the balloons to reveal their hidden surprises! On Tuesday, we had a heartfelt discussion about love. We read the book Love Is and shared our thoughts on what love means to each of us. The kinders then expressed their ideas through drawings and sentences, showcasing some truly thoughtful and creative responses. It was wonderful to see their different perspectives on love! Kindness Week in Kindergarten!

Hello families! This week was filled with exciting learning experiences and hands-on activities! Monday: We kicked off the week by introducing the letter Bb! The kids had fun brainstorming words that start with B, such as banana, balloon, and butterfly. We practiced writing the uppercase and lowercase Bb and played a sorting game to differentiate between words that start with B and words that do not. Tuesday: We continued exploring shapes and went on a classroom scavenger hunt! The kids worked in pairs to find and identify different shapes around the room, such as squares on books, circles on clocks, and triangles in decorations. Afterward, we discussed where we see these shapes in the real world. Wednesday: We had a meaningful discussion about Pink Shirt Day, talking about kindness, respect, and standing up for others.
