From Fingerprint Flowers to Zoo Adventures: A Fun-Filled Week in Kindergarten!
Hello families!
We had a wonderful week full of learning, creativity, and excitement!
On Monday, we began our day with partner reading at the carpet. The kids are getting more confident and engaged during independent and partner reading time. We also focused on the letter Xx. We practiced identifying words that begin or end with X, and explored how this letter is a bit tricky since it's not as common!
On Tuesday, we made a special craft for the mothers/parent in our lives. Each child created a flower using their fingerprints on a coaster—something meaningful and handmade for the moms in our lives! In gym, we had an exciting scooter day. The kids learned how to ride safely, navigate space, and had so much fun zooming around the gym! We also had a picnic today by the trees before spending some time outside with bubbles and playing on the playground.
On Wednesday, we explored the number 5 in math. We looked at how to represent it in different ways—tally marks, ten frames, fingers, and number sentences. We also practiced beginning sounds by identifying initial letters in words and drawing corresponding pictures. We then read some sight words such as the, as, and at.
On Thursday, we wrote in our journals about what we were most excited to see or do on our zoo trip. The responses were so thoughtful—from seeing the penguins and giraffes to riding the bus and being with friends! We also talked about the different seasons today and read the book "The Weather Girls".
On Friday, we went to the Calgary Zoo! It was a beautiful, sunny day and the students were absolutely amazing. They showed curiosity, kindness, and respect while exploring the zoo. We saw so many animals and had lots of fun learning together outside the classroom.
Thank you again to all the volunteers who helped make the day such a success!
Cheers,
Ms.Infante
