Just Ask!

Image
Hello Families! This week, we began by reading quietly at our tables on our own. Afterward, we transitioned to the carpet, where we read a book called Just Ask, a story about differences. We had a meaningful discussion about what makes us unique compared to our peers. For example, one child shared that they were born in Ottawa, while another said they have lots of energy and love crafts. We talked about how our differences make us special and how important it is to take pride in who we are, how we look, and where we come from. In math, we explored patterning. Students demonstrated their understanding of an AB pattern and showed great creativity in their work. On Tuesday, we continued our patterning activities by starting our very own pattern books! The students enjoyed creating their designs, and we also took advantage of the slightly warmer weather with some outdoor time. On Wednesday, we focused on the letter N. For our "alphabet soup," we included a nurse, nut...

Snowy Week

Image
Hello Families! This week started with a snowy bang! We introduced our letter of the week: I! For our alphabet soup, we included an iron, an insect, ice, an igloo, and an iguana. As a class, we brainstormed items in our classroom that start with the letter I. The kids enjoyed a guided drawing activity where they followed step-by-step instructions to draw an ice cream cone—perfectly ironic for the chilly weather! We also had a sharing circle where everyone shared their favorite ice cream flavors and colored their ice cream cones to match their chosen flavors. Tuesday was all about our November self-portraits. Each month, students will draw a self-portrait and write their name to track how their skills improve over time. It’s always so wonderful to see their unique perspectives of themselves. Wednesday brought a thoughtful discussion about lockdown drills. We read a social story to help the children understand why lockdowns are important for keeping everyone safe. The students lis...

Kindness Matters

Image
Hello Families! We only had one day of kindergarten this week, but we made it a fun-filled day! We started the morning by coloring a kindness page. During our carpet meeting, we sang our hello song, reviewed our classroom rules, and learned a kindness song! We also had a thoughtful discussion about what it means to be kind and how we can show kindness in the classroom. Next, we read a story called I Wonder. Afterward, we talked about what we remembered from the story and drew pictures to reflect our thoughts. Later, the children had a blast in music class with Ms. Mandin, singing and dancing together. Afterward, we enjoyed snack time and explored our centers. The water table and sand table have been big hits! We are practicing taking turns, and everyone is doing a great job being patient. We ended our day in the gym, where we learned a new game called “Germ Tag.” We’re looking forward to having a full week of learning and fun next week. See you all then! Important Dates:...

This Week in kindergarten

Image
Hello families! This week in kindergarten, we kicked things off by introducing the letter "P"! The kids were very excited to explore new words and objects that start with this letter. For our "alphabet soup" this week, we added pumpkin, pears, pickles, and even a pig! The children had a lot of fun with it and unanimously agreed that this week's soup tasted much better than our "T" soup. I was genuinely surprised by how many words they could come up with that begin with "P." Their vocabulary is expanding quickly, and they’re so eager to share what they know! We also had a special event this week: our class pictures! They were all smiles, and it was a joyful experience for them to capture this memory together. I can't wait to see how the photos turned out—it will be fun to share this little snapshot of our class! Later in the week, we spent some time learning about Remembrance Day and discussed why it's so important to remember the...

A Spooktacular Week in Kinder!

Image
Hello families! We had such a fun week in class! We started by introducing the letter "T." Our "alphabet soup" for the week included tigers, turtles, and toes—but the kids agreed that this was one soup they didn’t want to eat! In our journals, we read Room on the Broom, a story about a witch who loses some things, and animals help her find them. In return, she lets them ride on her broom. This taught us about friendship, helping others, and teamwork. We also discussed our favorite activities and drew pictures of what we love to do most. Some kids shared that they enjoy camping, others said traveling to Malaysia, some mentioned spending time with family, and one said eating delicious food! We also started learning the song Five Little Pumpkins. The kids loved singing it together with the actions! We drew the five little pumpkins on a gate, and each one had a different face—some scary, some happy, some sad, and others surprised. Then, we used watercolor to bring ...
